Business Development Specialist
Job Description
Interstate Batteries seeks a Business Development Specialist to grow profitable distributor accounts and acquire new business in Waipahu, Hawaii (onsite).
Responsibilities
- Identify and win new Traditional Independent Licensed Dealers and Non-Mandated National Accounts for the distributor; qualify prospects and guide the process to a close.
- Travel frequently within the defined territory to meet with dealers.
- Install initial in-store setups for new customers, including racks, batteries, point-of-purchase displays, and testers.
- Confirm that accounts are on the appropriate route schedule.
- Maintain required documentation and records.
- Provide complete answers to dealer questions about programs, products, and services.
- Educate dealers on relevant programs, products, development opportunities, and available Interstate training.
- Build a target list of approximately 100 growth dealers within the assigned territory.
- Foster relationships with new and existing dealers through in-person meetings, site visits, and networking events.
- Conduct periodic business reviews with growth dealers, covering current performance, opportunities, and recommended plans.
- Support additional dealer visits beyond growth dealers as needed.
- Use Salesforce daily for prospecting, pipeline management, activity documentation, and closing deals.
- Relay pricing actions to operating dealers, guided by monthly gross profit reviews.
- Support accounts receivable collection calls or customer visits as needed.
- Make at least 40 in-person sales calls per week.
- Visit NAC dealer locations within the market as required by company needs.
- Aim to meet or exceed targets for new unit sales, growth dealers, and average price per unit sold.
- Address dealer issues and complaints promptly.
- Collaborate with internal teams including Market General Managers, Assistant Market General Managers, Route Sales Managers, and office/warehouse staff to ensure customer satisfaction and account growth.
Requirements
- 1 to 2 years of business-to-business sales experience preferred.
- Outside sales, business development, or field-based account management experience is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Proven ability to lead and develop a sales function.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent customer service skills with a results-driven mindset.
- Strong negotiation and closing abilities with a track record of meeting or exceeding quotas.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and cover a designated area.
- Clear and professional written, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office and Excel is required.
- Experience with Salesforce, Concur, Workday, and/or Tableau is preferred.
- Comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with frequent travel.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
