Business Development Representative
Job Description
Smart Start is hiring a relationship-driven Business Development Representative to grow market presence and build strategic influencer partnerships across North Texas.
Responsibilities
- Establish, develop, and maintain strong in-person relationships with current and prospective influencers in the assigned territory
- Drive new sales through proactive outreach, structured territory planning, and consistent relationship cultivation
- Identify and develop new referral sources to expand product market share
- Assess influencer needs and build productive, long-term partnerships that support consistent lead generation
- Provide technical expertise and consultative support to government officials and referral partners
- Educate partners on product functionality, reporting platforms, and compliance features
- Attend trade shows, industry conferences, and state-level meetings related to alcohol monitoring and ignition interlock programs
- Act as a territory expert on state regulations, impaired driving laws, ignition interlock requirements, and alcohol monitoring standards
- Develop and execute competitive sales strategies aligned to local market dynamics
- Gather market intelligence to maintain Smart Start’s competitive advantage
- Maintain proficiency in Smart Start products, CRM systems, and monitoring platforms
- Conduct consistent face-to-face meetings to strengthen referral pipelines and support territory growth
Requirements
- Familiarity with the criminal justice system and the ability to build credible, professional relationships with law enforcement personnel, court staff, attorneys, and other justice-system partners
- MUST reside in the North Texas area
- Proven experience in sales or business development
- Ability to work independently in a field-based environment
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Ability to demonstrate and utilize breath alcohol testing devices on a continual basis
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle

Qualifications (Highly Preferred)
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Experience in impaired driving, ignition interlock, or alcohol monitoring programs
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree
Work Environment & Travel
- Field-based role: Approximately 80% of time in the field developing and managing influencer relationships
- Overnight travel: Approximately 40%, including occasional weekend travel for conferences and industry events
Technical Skills
- Above-average computer proficiency
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
- CRM and proprietary software system experience

- Regularly required to communicate verbally and hear
- Frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
