Job Description

Kumi Construction Management Corporation is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to expand its footprint across the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia market. This onsite role supports growth in the DMV A/E/C industry by driving new opportunity development, strengthening client relationships, and helping position the company for upcoming pursuits.

In this position, you will focus on identifying and pursuing business opportunities throughout the region, building a qualified pipeline, and coordinating cross-functional pursuit strategy with leadership, estimating, operations, and marketing teams. You will also represent the company at key meetings and industry events to increase visibility and strengthen relationships across the A/E/C community.

Key Responsibilities

Identify, pursue, and develop new business opportunities across the DMV region.
Build and maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients, including owners, developers, architects, engineers, contractors, government agencies, and other industry partners.
Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified opportunities.
Monitor upcoming projects, solicitations, and RFPs/RFQs, along with other relevant market opportunities.
Attend industry events, conferences, networking functions, pre-bid meetings, and client meetings to improve Kumi’s visibility.
Develop strategic relationships with teaming partners and identify joint pursuit opportunities.
Coordinate with company leadership, estimating, operations, and marketing teams on pursuit strategies.
Support proposal development, presentations, interviews, and other business development activities.
Research market trends, competitors, clients, and upcoming projects to identify growth opportunities.
Maintain accurate records of business development activities, contacts, opportunities, and follow-up actions.
Assist leadership with annual and long-term business development strategy development and execution.
Represent Kumi professionally and strengthen the company’s reputation throughout the DMV A/E/C community.

Qualifications

Experience in business development.
A/E/C industry experience.
Established professional network within the DMV A/E/C market.
Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and generate new business opportunities.
Strong understanding of the procurement and project pursuit process.
Excellent communication, presentation, networking, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with executive, estimating, operations, and marketing teams.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (preferred).
Business development experience: 10 years (required).

Key Responsibilities

Lead, coach, and develop Sales Representatives to achieve district sales, volume, distribution, and profitability goals.

Run regular one-on-ones and team meetings to set expectations, review results, provide feedback, and reinforce priority focus.

Requirements

5+ years of experience in sales, account management, or a related field, including at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
Beverage alcohol industry experience is strongly preferred.
Knowledge of the three-tier beverage distribution system is a significant plus.
Proven ability to lead, coach, and hold a sales team accountable for results.
Strong business judgment, including the ability to use sales data to identify opportunities and make decisions.
Excellent communication, relationship-building, organization, and presentation skills.
Ability to manage competing priorities and adapt quickly in a changing market.
