This role supports United’s growth in the Southwest region, with an initial emphasis on building a strong presence in the Phoenix market. The Business Development Manager will create new customer relationships, expand priority accounts, and help identify strategic project opportunities across specialty welding, fabrication, machining, and field services.
Role Focus and Target Markets
The position drives business development strategy for the Southwest, starting in Phoenix and expanding into key industrial sectors. Target markets include Semiconductor Manufacturing, Advanced Manufacturing, Data Centers, Power Generation, and Industrial Process & Manufacturing.
Ideal customer targets include EPC Firms, General Contractors, Semiconductor Equipment Manufacturers, Data Center / Mission Critical Developers & Construction Contractors, and OEMs and Technology Providers.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a business development strategy for the Southwest region.
- Establish United’s presence in Phoenix across industrial, semiconductor, data center, and manufacturing markets.
- Identify and pursue new customer relationships and project opportunities.
- Build a sustainable opportunity pipeline aligned with United’s strategic growth objectives.
- Maintain an active target account list and growth plan for priority customers.
- Generate new business opportunities across Advanced Manufacturing, Semiconductor, Data Centers, Power Generation, and Industrial Process & Manufacturing.
- Develop relationships with EPC firms, General Contractors, Mechanical Contractors, Facility Operators, and Engineering Firms.
- Lead customer meetings, site visits, presentations, and proposal discussions.
- Support proposal development and customer pursuit strategies.
- Manage opportunities through the full sales cycle from lead generation through award.
- Maintain executive-level relationships with existing customers.
- Support account growth strategies focused on increasing wallet share within existing customers.
- Coordinate closely with Operations to ensure customer satisfaction and successful project execution.
- Identify opportunities to expand services and capabilities within existing accounts.
- Monitor market activity, capital projects, competitive dynamics, and customer investment plans.
- Provide market intelligence to leadership on emerging opportunities and industry trends.
- Identify target projects and strategic customers before procurement activity begins.
- Assist in evaluating new market segments and growth opportunities.
- Represent United at industry conferences, trade associations, customer events, and networking functions.
- Develop relationships with key market influencers and decision makers.
- Help establish United’s brand presence throughout the Southwest region, including identifying sponsorship, speaking, and industry engagement opportunities.
- Partner with Operations and Estimating to develop customer solutions and execution strategies, and participate in bid reviews and pursuit planning discussions.
- Ensure customer requirements and project expectations are communicated internally.
- Support project startup and customer transition following project award.
- Maintain accurate customer, opportunity, and activity data within HubSpot CRM.
- Develop and manage opportunity forecasts and sales pipeline reporting, and provide regular updates on pipeline health, market activity, and forecasted opportunities.
Requirements
- 7+ years of business development, sales, account management, or commercial leadership experience.
- Experience in industrial construction, specialty contracting, fabrication, welding, mechanical construction, energy, manufacturing, or related industries.
- Strong network within Southwest target markets preferred (candidate must reside in the PHX area).
- Proven ability to develop new business relationships and generate revenue growth.
- Strong understanding of project-based selling environments.
- Experience working with EPCs and GCs and industrial customers.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
